Overview of our services
for escalators and moving walks

Internal fire protection cleaning / general cleaning

Dirt, dust and grease deposits can penetrate the system and pose a fire risk. Regular internal fire protection cleaning is therefore essential. To this end, part of the step conveyor is removed in order to thoroughly clean the guides, bottom plate and reversing stations. The general cleaning goes even further: all steps are removed and cleaned inside and out, including inner beams, side guides, drive and handrails. For hygiene and food areas, we also recommend our mobile step cleaning machine, which removes even stubborn residues such as road grime, food residues and greasy or oily substances.

Footbridge and step renewal

Despite their sturdy construction, the treads of aluminum escalator steps and moving walk pallets are subject to constant wear. Hard objects wedged in the comb segments, such as screws or stones, gradually grind the treads narrower and narrower until the tread width has been reduced from 2 mm to 1 mm or less. Broken web edges are often caused by foreign objects or falling objects and can jeopardize the safety distances according to DIN/ÖNORM EN 115-1:2008 – a risk for users. Older sheet steel steps from the 1970s also suffer from temperature and moisture fluctuations. Our team of experts analyzes affected areas, reinforces them in a targeted manner and finally protects them with a special corrosion coating.

Changing the gearbox oil

Your systems have been in continuous use for years. To ensure perfect drive function, it is necessary to change the gear oil in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions. Gear oil loses its viscosity and lubricating properties over time. This leads to increased wear and reduced energy efficiency. We therefore recommend our free preventive oil check. We offer the following services:

  • Gearbox oil change by a certified specialist outside opening hours
  • Checking the gearbox for hairline cracks
  • Photoelectronic condition analysis of the transmission gears
  • Check the sealing gasket and replace if necessary
  • Filling with new gear oil, biodegradable on request
  • Professional and environmentally friendly disposal of waste oil in accordance with WHG

Emergency

A 24-hour emergency service requires rapid availability and short response times – a requirement that only companies with a structure based on DIN/ÖNORM EN 13015 can reliably meet. Our 24/7 service guarantees consistent quality for all types of system.

If a system is running around the clock or is in standby mode, its permanent availability has top priority. Our control center determines the nearest Geyssel service employee, calculates the fastest route and immediately informs you of the estimated time of arrival.

On-site support

The failure of a system is more difficult in cases where a particularly large number of customers are expected or the capacity of your system is fully utilized due to a high flow of visitors, e.g. when reopening after renovation, before Easter and
Christmas, on days with special sales, an event, etc.. On such occasions, the failure of a passenger conveyor system is particularly critical. As a preventive measure, we therefore offer our customers an on-site presence of a qualified service technician for the above-mentioned events. This technician remains on site for a period of time of your choice and can intervene immediately in an emergency.

Energy saving concepts

Older escalators and moving walks from the 70s, 80s and 90s often no longer meet today’s energy efficiency standards. Instead of a cost-intensive new purchase, a retrofit can be an economical alternative. Our retrofit packages are tailored to the respective system type. An investment in retrofitting often pays for itself after around three years. Possible replacement components for higher energy efficiency are, for example Conversion from tubes to LED lighting, person-controlled running times of the step conveyor, frequency converters for creep speed and standby or low-maintenance chains.

Dismantling and professional disposal

All components of Geyssel escalators and moving walks are fully recyclable and can therefore be used as raw materials for new products in the environmental chain. The removal of old systems from all manufacturers and their disposal as well as the professional disposal of operating materials, e.g. old gear oil, is carried out in strict compliance with all environmental requirements with corresponding disposal certificates. The area of operating materials and the environmentally friendly handling of oils and other lubricants is monitored by a specialist for water-polluting substances in accordance with the WHG.

Security

In addition to DIN/ÖNORM EN 115-1:2008+A1:2010 Safety of escalators and moving walks – Part 1: “Design and installation”, the Standards Committee for Mechanical Engineering (NAM) has created DIN/ÖNORM EN 115-2:2010 Safety of escalators and moving walks – Part 2: Rules for increasing the safety of existing escalators and moving walks as a basis for upgrading and retrofitting older installations in accordance with the standard. However, as these installations are protected by law, this standard is more of a technical recommendation for operators. On this basis, we can carry out a safety check with a risk analysis on request as part of a planned retrofit and can analyze potential weak points in the system by comparing it with the current state of the art.

Insulation tests

An insulation measurement is a measurement of the insulation resistance of electrical equipment to assess its functionality and safety. We carry out insulation measurements for new systems, conversions, modifications, repairs and in the event of faults. In addition, regular repeat tests are prescribed for commercial installations at regular intervals.

Repair of handrails

Did you know that a handrail on a department store escalator or moving walkway travels up to 6,000 km a year? With professional care, e.g. with Geyssel Handrail Cleaner and Handrail Finisher, as well as regular maintenance, a handrail can travel once around the world during its lifetime. When using conventional cleaners, it is possible for a handrail to start cracking after 3-4 years. We ensure that your handrail remains in optimum condition. However, should it be necessary to replace your handrail, we will be happy to provide you with a system-specific quotation.
